The T-shirt acquired its English name (“t-shirt”) during the First World War, when it was used as an undergarment of the Western armies. She could have a short or long sleeve, designed for warm and cold weather, respectively. The traditional Russian-language name sounded like an undershirt, which was later supplanted by the word T-shirt, since such a shirt became an element of a football uniform (with one difference - a football player's shirt at that time had a collar and was not underwear).
